Bhumi Pednekar: "As I begin my journey as an entrepreneur, I’m trying to back people and businesses that are looking to make a difference"

Bhumi Pednekar’s commitment to creating a sustainable and equitable society goes beyond her acting roles. She is also a leading voice in climate change advocacy, spearheading the hugely lauded social media campaign "Climate Warrior”. As an ardent environmentalist, she has wholeheartedly embraced climate conservation as her life's mission.

Expressing her thoughts Bhumi Pednekar shared “I have always believed that we can leave a positive mark on the world and in our community through our actions. For me, I choose to play strong, free, liberated women who challenge the societal status quo in films because I would like to change the gaze with which people look at women in India. I choose films keeping in mind how they will push the envelope of content in India. As a human being, I’m programmed to question society and champion women.”

Whether she dons the hat of an actor, environmental advocate or investor, Bhumi Pednekar veers towards stories with a purpose. This is evident in the impactful investments that she is making. She has recently invested in the hospitality sector, joining hands with Chrome Asia Hospitality for Kaia, the group’s first boutique hotel in Goa. Her vision for the investment is to build a one-of-a-kind destination that would offer luxury along with sustainable practices.

Bhumi added, “I’m the same human being off-screen or on-screen and I think I have a very strong core belief system. I feel I can use my voice to raise awareness on climate change and mobilise people to protect earth when I’m not shooting for films. Now, as I begin my journey as an entrepreneur, I’m trying to back people and businesses that are looking to make a difference. My foray into hospitality as an investor with Kaia is to create a community that is looking to travel sustainably. I think as an investor, I’m going to back businesses that are looking to have a positive impact on society or on nature. I gravitate to those people and belief systems naturally as it is an extension of my personality.”

Bhumi Pednekar has been a champion of change globally! She has a deep-rooted passion for the planet. As a climate warrior, she has worked patiently and relentlessly with actual people on the ground to raise awareness on climate change. On her birthday this year, Bhumi Pednekar shared her intention of taking another huge step to further her work towards restoring ecological harmony across India by launching a not for profit organisation ‘The Bhumi Foundation’.
