Boney Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor get major relief as Madras High Court dismisses Chennai property suit linked to Sridevi

In a significant legal victory for Boney Kapoor and daughters Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor, the Madras High Court has dismissed a civil suit concerning a Chennai property that had been purchased in the name of late actress Sridevi in 1988.

As per reports of Bar and Bench, Justice T V Thamilselvi allowed the civil revision petition filed by the Kapoor family and overturned an earlier order passed by a Chengalpattu court, which had declined to reject the plaint submitted by the plaintiffs. The matter was heard in the case titled Boney Kapoor vs C Sivakami.

The dispute revolved around a 2.70-acre property located in Sholinganallur, Chennai. The plaintiffs, identified as MC Sivakami, MC Natarajan and Chandrabhanu, had approached the court claiming inheritance rights over the land as alleged legal heirs of late MC Chandrasekaran. They had also questioned the validity of the 1988 sale deeds executed in favour of Sridevi, her mother, and sister, alleging that the sellers did not possess lawful ownership of the property at the time of the transaction.

The petitioners had further argued that the land originally belonged to MC Sambanda Mudaliar, who reportedly acquired large tracts in the region in the 1940s. According to their submissions, they became aware of the alleged irregularities only in 2023 after a patta was issued in the names of Boney Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor.

However, the Kapoor family challenged the maintainability of the suit before the High Court under Order VII Rule 11 of the Code of Civil Procedure. Their counsel contended that the plaintiffs were not recognised as Class I legal heirs of Chandrasekaran and highlighted that he himself had never disputed the sale deeds during his lifetime. Chandrasekaran passed away in 1995, while the present suit was instituted only in 2025.

The High Court agreed with the Kapoor family’s submissions and observed that the challenge to the transaction had been initiated nearly four decades after the sale, rendering the case barred by limitation. The court also noted inconsistencies in the plaintiffs’ claims regarding legal heirship and pointed out that the certificate relied upon by them had already been cancelled.

Further, the court found the claim that the plaintiffs learnt about the property transaction only in 2023 to be difficult to accept. It also remarked that following Sridevi’s demise, the property had legally devolved upon Boney Kapoor and daughters Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor. Describing the litigation as a misuse of legal process aimed at claiming the property through a distressing plea, the High Court ultimately rejected the plaint and set aside the earlier trial court order.

Prime Video and Amazon MX Player merge to create India’s biggest streaming platform with free and paid content

In a major development in India’s streaming landscape, Prime Video has announced the integration of Amazon MX Player into its platform, creating what the company calls India’s largest streaming service for exclusive originals across free and paid entertainment.

The move will bring together Prime Video’s premium subscription-based content library with Amazon MX Player’s extensive ad-supported content offering, giving viewers access to a wider range of entertainment under one unified destination. The combined platform will span Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD), Advertising Video on Demand (AVOD), Transactional Video on Demand (TVOD), and add-on subscriptions.

The integration comes after Amazon acquired certain MX Player assets in 2024 and merged them with Amazon miniTV to create Amazon MX Player. The service rapidly expanded its reach through local originals, reality programming, micro-dramas and dubbed international content.

With the latest merger, Prime members will now have access to a larger catalogue of originals and exclusives across devices, with options to watch content with ads or choose an ad-free experience. At the same time, viewers looking for free entertainment will continue to have access to a broad selection of ad-supported content along with seamless opportunities to subscribe to Prime.

Speaking about the integration, Gaurav Gandhi, Vice President, Asia-Pacific and ANZ, Prime Video, said, “Our focus at Prime Video has always been to bring authentic stories that reflect the diversity of our audiences. With the integration of Amazon MX Player’s expansive original slate and audience scale, our collective offering is bigger and stronger than ever — making Prime Video the one-stop destination for quality entertainment, for every customer in the country.”

He further added, “Amazon MX Player has built remarkable engagement through a diverse library, and bringing it together with Prime Video’s iconic stories means we can keep serving our customers with the largest selection of exclusive and original content from India and around the world.”

The integration is also expected to significantly expand advertising opportunities on the platform. Girish Prabhu, Vice President & Head, Amazon Ads India, described the move as a “gamechanger” for advertisers.

“The unification of Amazon MX Player with Prime Video is a gamechanger for advertisers in India. We've created a single streaming destination that reaches audiences across the entire spectrum — from free ad-supported viewers to Prime members — enabling true full-funnel advertising on an unprecedented scale. Advertisers now have access to the most relevant and high-performing ad formats, all powered by trillions of shopping, browsing, and streaming signals, transforming every impression into measurable business outcomes, making Prime Video the most comprehensive video advertising service in Indian streaming,” he said.

As part of the rollout, the Amazon MX Player app on Android will continue serving free streaming users with a rebranded identity and an integrated Prime Video experience. Users will also get the option to upgrade to Prime subscriptions for expanded content access. Meanwhile, the iOS, web and Living Room versions of the app will redirect viewers directly to Prime Video, where content from both services will be accessible.

Prime Video currently houses several acclaimed Indian and international originals, while Amazon MX Player has established a strong foothold in the free streaming market through its diverse catalogue. With this integration, Amazon aims to strengthen its position in India’s rapidly evolving OTT ecosystem by catering to both premium subscribers and free-streaming audiences under a single entertainment hub.

Zee takes Nykaa to court over Instagram reels music use; seeks Rs. 2 crores in damages

In a significant legal move, Zee Entertainment Enterprises has filed a case against Nykaa, alleging unauthorised use of its copyrighted music in promotional content on Instagram. The media giant is seeking damages amounting to Rs. 2 crores (approximately $210,000), according to court filings reviewed by Reuters.

The lawsuit, submitted to the Delhi High Court on April 3, centres around the use of Zee-owned songs in short video clips posted by Nykaa on Instagram. Zee has argued that while it holds a licensing arrangement with Meta Platforms that permits individuals to use its music for non-commercial purposes, the same does not extend to brands using the tracks for advertising.

According to the claims, Nykaa allegedly featured several of Zee’s songs in Instagram reels to promote its products to its large follower base, without obtaining the necessary permissions. The case reportedly includes references to 12 such posts, along with supporting screenshots submitted as evidence.

Although the detailed court documents are not publicly accessible, both companies have refrained from issuing official statements on the matter so far.

During a recent hearing, Nykaa’s legal representative informed the court that the 12 identified reels had already been removed from the platform. This development was noted in a court order, though it has not been widely reported until now.

Zee’s complaint, which reportedly spans over 900 pages, maintains that the music was used without proper authorisation, and therefore constitutes a violation of its rights. The company has requested financial compensation for what it describes as unauthorised commercial exploitation of its content.

The case highlights a growing trend in digital marketing, where brands increasingly rely on short-form video content on platforms like Instagram, often pairing visuals with popular Hindi tracks to boost engagement.

Legal experts believe the outcome of this dispute could have broader implications for how companies approach music usage in social media campaigns. Aditya Gupta, a partner at Ira Law, noted that marketing teams frequently use music available in platform libraries without fully understanding usage restrictions, adding that a court ruling could bring greater clarity to such practices.

The matter is scheduled to be heard next on May 26, and its outcome is likely to be closely watched by both the media and advertising industries.

SCOOP: Sanjay Dutt-starrer Aakhri Sawal unlikely to release in cinemas on May 8 due to censor issues; makers eye May 15 release

Bollywood Hungama has exclusively learned that Aakhri Sawal, which was all set to release in cinemas on May 8, is unlikely to make it to theatres on the scheduled date due to censor certification issues. We were the first ones to report last week that even the trailer has not yet been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The trailer, like the film, is still awaiting clearance from the Censor Board.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “The nature of the film and its plot is such that the CBFC members are being cautious. The makers have explained to the CBFC committee that their film is based on historical events and records and hence, deserves to be released. The discussions between the makers and the CBFC have taken a lot of time. Hence, the producers of Aakhri Sawal felt that it would be wise to push the film to a later date.”

The source continued, “At present, the makers are considering releasing their film on May 15. Of course, this will be subject to receiving the censor certification on time. An announcement on the same can be expected soon once the hurdles are cleared.”

Directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Abhijeet Mohan Warang of Picasso fame, the film features a multi-generational ensemble cast. Alongside Sanjay Dutt, the lineup includes Namashi Chakraborty, Amit Sadh, Sameera Reddy, Neetu Chandra, Tridha Choudhury, Mrinal Kulkarni, Nikhil Nanda, Archana Iyer, and Bipin Nadkarni.

The film is produced by Nikhil Nanda and Sanjay Dutt under the banners of Nikhil Nanda Motion Pictures and Neem Tree Entertainment. The screenplay, script, and dialogues have been written by Utkarsh Naithani, while the music is composed by Monty Sharma with lyrics by Kumar Vishwas.

Interestingly, Aakhri Sawal was meant to release on May 15 at one point and was preponed to May 8 just last month.

Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika Padukone's King leak goes viral: Are fan pages bigger than official promotions now?

Leaked visuals from the South Africa schedule of King, featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, went viral online; Siddharth Anand requested fans not to circulate such visuals to preserve the film’s cinematic experience.

Once upon a time, Bollywood controlled the first look.

A poster was planned. A teaser was timed. A still was approved. A magazine cover was negotiated. A campaign was built week by week, sometimes month by month. The audience saw what the studio wanted them to see, when the studio wanted them to see it. That world is gone.

The King leak controversy proves it. One leaked visual from a foreign schedule can now do what crores of marketing money once did. Ignite national conversation before the makers are ready. Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s leaked visuals from the sets have sent fans into overdrive, while director Siddharth Anand’s appeal not to circulate them has raised a larger question: in today’s cinema ecosystem, are fan pages more powerful than official PR?

The answer is uncomfortable. In many ways, yes.

pic.twitter.com/sTvx9IP4w3 — Siddharth Anand (@justSidAnand) May 1, 2026

Fan pages today are not just fan clubs. They are distribution networks. They are hype machines. They are unofficial newsrooms, meme factories, archive libraries and emotional armies. They monitor shoots, track schedules, amplify sightings, decode costumes, compare looks, trend hashtags and create narratives long before studios release official material. For a film like King, starring Shah Rukh Khan, this ecosystem becomes even more intense. SRK fandom is not passive. It is organised, emotional and incredibly fast.

That speed is both a blessing and a problem. On one hand, leaked images prove massive curiosity. Nobody leaks or circulates something that no one cares about. The frenzy around King shows the scale of anticipation. It tells the industry that the film is already an event. It gives free publicity, organic chatter and instant recall. In marketing terms, that is gold.

But cinema is not only marketing. It is also an experience. A filmmaker plans reveals for a reason. A look, a frame, a costume, a location, a character dynamic, all these things are meant to arrive with context. When leaked in poor quality or without explanation, they can distort perception. A blurry picture becomes a theory. A half seen costume becomes a judgement. A random moment on the set becomes a first look. The surprise is diluted before the storytelling even begins.

That is why Siddharth Anand’s frustration is understandable. A film like King is not being built casually. It is being mounted as a major cinematic event. The makers would naturally want control over how the first real imagery reaches the public. But control is now the hardest thing for filmmakers to retain. The more anticipated the film, the more impossible secrecy becomes.

There is also a moral question for fans. If one loves a star, does circulating leaks help or hurt the film? Fans often argue that they are only spreading excitement. Filmmakers argue that they are damaging the surprise. Both sides have a point. Fan excitement is genuine. But love without restraint can become interference. There is a difference between celebrating a film and prematurely exposing it.

The deeper issue is that Bollywood’s promotional model has not fully adapted to the fan page age. Studios still think in terms of official drops. Fans operate in real time. Studios plan calendars. Fans chase moments. Studios want polish. Fans want immediacy. The gap between the two is where leaks thrive.

The King controversy also shows the changing power structure around stardom. Earlier, PR teams created narratives and fans consumed them. Today, fans often create narratives and PR teams react to them. A leaked image can force a filmmaker to issue a statement. A fan trend can push a studio to respond. A blurry video can become bigger than a planned announcement. This is not a small shift. It is a complete reversal of control.

For Shah Rukh Khan, this is not new. His fandom has always been emotionally charged. But after his massive comeback phase, every move around him carries even greater scrutiny. Add Deepika Padukone to the mix, and the curiosity multiplies. Every frame becomes content. Every gesture becomes discourse. Every leak becomes a headline.

The industry now has two choices. It can either keep fighting leaks with requests and warnings, or it can rethink how to handle anticipation in an age where secrecy is almost impossible. Perhaps the answer lies in faster official communication, controlled behind the scenes drops, stricter set protocols and a more direct relationship with fan communities. But even then, the truth remains: the fan page is now a stakeholder.

The King may still belong to the makers on screen, but off screen, the kingdom is increasingly being run by the fans.

Dhurandhar The Revenge controversy settles: Santosh Kumar apologises to Aditya Dhar and team, Bombay High Court closes defamation suit

The legal tussle involving Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar The Revenge has, for the time being, reached a resolution after the Bombay High Court disposed of a defamation case. The development came after filmmaker Santosh Kumar formally apologised for his earlier public remarks.

The dispute traces back to March 2026, when Kumar accused Dhar of lifting the storyline for Dhurandhar The Revenge from his own script titled D-Saheb. He claimed that his script had been officially registered with the Screenwriters Association in 2023. These allegations were made during a press conference, following which Dhar approached the High Court, arguing that the statements were defamatory and had harmed his professional reputation.

As reported by Live Law, the matter was heard by a single-judge bench presided over by Justice Arif Doctor, who ultimately closed the case after Kumar issued an unconditional apology in court.

The official order recorded that Kumar’s counsel submitted the apology for statements made during the March 30, 2026 press interaction. Dhar’s legal representative informed the court that, in view of the apology, his client no longer wished to continue pursuing the defamation suit or seek damages. Accepting the apology, Dhar agreed that the matter could be concluded, leading the court to dispose of the case, noting that no further issues remained to be addressed.

While this brings an end to the defamation proceedings, the court clarified that Kumar retains the right to initiate separate legal action regarding his claim over the script. The ruling explicitly stated that any future proceedings on the issue of authorship would be independent and unaffected by the current order.

During earlier hearings, the court had encouraged both parties to settle the matter amicably and refrain from escalating tensions. Although Kumar was initially reluctant to issue a formal apology, he eventually agreed, paving the way for the dispute’s resolution.

For now, the defamation case stands closed, but the larger question surrounding the ownership of the story remains unresolved and could potentially lead to fresh litigation in the future.

The video follows a series of images from the same schedule that went viral earlier.
