For years, Indian celebrities have attended film premieres, walked the red carpets, and done several appearances at the Cannes Film Festival. Reminiscing her appearance at Cannes in 1976, Shabana Azmi shared a rare photo from her visit.
In a black and white photo, Shabana Azmi was standing next Smita Patil and filmmaker Shyam Benegal. "At Cannes for #Nishant 1976. We had no publicity material and no money so #Shyam Benegal asked #Smita Patil and me to wear our best saris and walk up and down the promenade to attract attention . And when people turned around to stare at these strange looking exotic creatures we would persuasively plead “ Our film is showing on so and so date pls come to watch it “ and we managed a full house ! lThat was the advertising acumen of #Shyam Benegal," she wrote on Instagram.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Shabana Azmi will next star in Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. The film is helmed by Karan Johar and stars Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Jaya Bachchan and Dharmendra. It is set to release in February 2023.
