The 69th Filmfare Awards recently took place in Gujarat where a number of films, crew members and technicians got awarded for their work on screen in 2023. The coveted Best Film Award was won by Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s 12th Fail while Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt were declared Best Actor and Best Actress for their performances in Animal and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.
An interesting fact has come to light that the maximum number of Filmfare Award wins for Best Actor are in the names of Dilip Kumar and Shah Rukh Khan. Both have won the award as many as eight times. In other words, SRK needs one more award to record the highest number of Best Actor awards.
Dilip Kumar has won the Filmfare for Best Actor in films Daag, Azaad, Devdas, Naya Daur, Kohinoor, Leader, Ram Aur Shyam and Shakti. On the other hand, SRK has lifted the Best Actor trophy for films Baazigar, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Dil To Pagal Hai, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Devdas, Swades, Chak De! India and My Name Is Khan. Interestingly, Dilip Kumar has two more Filmfare trophies in the form of Lifetime Achievement Award in 1994 and Special Award for contribution to cinema in 2004.
Dilip Kumar and SRK are followed by Amitabh Bachchan who has won the Best Actor trophy five times for films Amar Akbar Anthony, Don, Hum, Black and Paa.
Bachchan is followed by Hrithik Roshan who has won the Best Actor trophy for Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, Koi Mill Gaya, Dhoom 2 and Jodha Akbar. He is tied with Ranbir Kapoor who has also won the award four times for his movies Rockstar, Barfi!, Sanju and Animal.
It will be interesting to see who goes past whom in the coming years and decades.
