As Brahmastra is all set to have the biggest opening of 2022, trade experts call the ‘boycott campaign’ ‘IRRELEVANT’ and a ‘creation of SICK minds’

Last month, Laal Singh Chaddha flopped disappointing both the audience and the makers of the film. Despite starring superstar Aamir Khan, it did not even open well. The ‘boycott brigade’ took credit for it and many believed that the negativity spread by the group prevented moviegoers from watching the film in cinemas.

As Brahmastra is all set to have the biggest opening of 2022, trade experts call the ‘boycott campaign’ ‘IRRELEVANT’ and a ‘creation of SICK minds’

This boycott had set its eyes next on Brahmastra, which releases on September 9. The boycott calls for this film got stronger as the release date neared. But to their horror, the ticket sales, too, increased with each passing day! Hence, does it prove that the whole boycott campaign is irrelevant?

Trade veteran Taran Adarsh observed, “This time if you see, the boycott calls are more aggressive for Brahmastra. But I have always maintained that be it IPL, weather conditions, examination, or boycott calls, nothing can harm a film if the content is strong. Padmaavat (2018) released amid a lot of tensions. But it didn’t get affected. However, in the case of Laal Singh Chaddha, since the content was weak, these voices become sharper.”

Girish Johar, producer and film business analyst, agreed, “There’s a large difference between the number of people who buy tickets to watch a film and those who call for a boycott. Such protests haven’t mattered even in the past. Even Padmaavat faced issues but it was such a big hit.”

On the same lines, trade analyst Atul Mohan added, “It always was irrelevant. It’s just that the films, which were being released, were bad and the boycott brigade took credit for it. But the fact is that even if those films had not been ‘boycotted’, woh filmein flop hi hone waali thi. Acchi film ko koi rok nahi sakta hai aur buri film ko koi chala nahi sakta hai.”

Raj Bansal, the owner of Entertainment Paradise in Jaipur, thundered, “Bakwaas hai sab. This boycott campaign has been created by sick minds. Who cares what they say?”
